Microsoft Windows

 

Microsoft Windows is a series of operating systems (OS) from Microsoft. Originally (in November 1985) the software was just called Windows, and was provided as an update to MS-DOS. This provided a graphical user interface (GUI) that sat on top of MS-DOS.

 

Microsoft Windows has dominated the personal computer (PC) market, overtaking the rival MAC-OS.

 

The latest incarnation of Windows is called Windows 7.

 

Despite dominating the PC market for a number of years, there is still a fair proportion of computer users who do not use Windows. One of the up-and-coming pretenders to the throne is called Linux.
