Software issues can cause a number of problems. But the most common complaint is that the machine is running very slowly, sometimes taking 15 minutes or more to reach a stable state. Even then, it can become so slow to respond to mouse clicks and keyboard commands, that you lose the will to live. This is indicative of a virus infection, and/or spyware, consuming CPU time, and causing the processor to get bogged down with needless tasks. Lack of disc space, disk fragmentation, and lack of memory can also add to the problem. Many computer users become so frustrated that they go to the local computer store and get talked into buying a new computer system by the salesman, when some software maintenance, and possibly a small hardware upgrade, would have done the trick. The Windows operating system is well known for getting slower and slower as time progresses, and is inherent in the way that Windows works. The registry grows larger over time, and consequently takes longer to search. As you add or remove software from your computer, the disk becomes fragmented, causing disk accesses to become slower. With these issues, constant virus threats, and unwanted spyware, using your computer on the internet can be hazardous to its health.
